quick question
i have a server in the attic at present.
currently it is powered via an adapter that i fed down through a hole in the ceiling and plugged into the wall in the study.

i want a couple of sockets fitted in the attic so i can cover the hole in the ceiling

is it possible to wire a couple of sockets off the upstairs lighting loop that is accessible in the attic, or does it need to be a spur of the mains loop?

//and yes i am aware of all the safety issues related to me not electrocuting myself :)

thanks

Sockets aren't usually put on the lighting loop traditionally, but it IS possible to do.

If it were me I'd just spur off the nearest mains socket somewhere.

Lighting rings are normally only 6 amps and you could end up in a bad situation.

I'd wire upthe 2 sockets in the attic to the socket in the study where you are drawing for your server.

my problem is access

the attic is above the study, the study is on the 1st floor

i am not sure if the sockets in the study are fed from below (which i suspect) rather than dropping down from the attic

can't you just raggle out the wall then replaster. Failing that use external tubing in the corner it won't be "that" noticable You get stuff with Blue peter style double sided sticky tape now, just cut and stick your tubing to the wall and insert cables.

Yeah you can do that, just use a fused spur and 3 amp plug in's. The work has to be done by a certified electrician though who will provide you with certificates for the work.

Just had similar done myself.
