I’ve got an online fan for he bathroom they have up the ghost. I bought what I thought was the same thing but it is slightly different when I’ve opened it up.

The fan currently connects to the light switch so when the lights come on the fan does too. When I’ve disconnected the old fan it had 3 cables, live, neautral and another which from my limited knowledge I’m guessing has something to do with the light switch.

The new fan only has live and neutral and no switch cable. Can I use the new fan or do I need to change it? Was t sure if I could connect the live and the switch wire together perhaps but didn’t want to try it without checking. Or does the fan I’ve bought not operate in the same way and requires it’s own switch?

Any help appreciated thanks.

Sound like you have got a fan without a timer overrun built in

So you could put the neutral and switch live in the new fan (permanent live in a choc block) and it will go on and off with the light - no timer overrun

Just means it wont stay on for a few mins to clear the room

They should make a timer model of the fan you should be able to swap it over or it might be a few £ more

Yes the previous one would stay on for a few minutes after you turned the light off. I’ll see if I can exchange the one I’ve got thanks.
