Electricity cost for a PC

Change the amount of watts it uses into Kilowatts and times by 15p (or howmuch you pay per unit)

IE 100w lightbulb = 0.1 kilowatt x 0.15 = 1.5p per hour

For me;

PC ~350w and LCD 48watts so 6p per hour

That a maxium estimate though, rather then the average, but useful all the same.

I'd work it out like this - no guarantees though:

11p per kwh, pc uses 400w on full load, ((11*0.400)*24)*31=3273, so £32 per month if it was on full load 24 hours a day in a 31 day month...? About £1 per day.

That's presuming your PC uses 400w, it's on full load constantly, your 'leccy costs 11pence per kilowatt/hour, and there's no off-peak discount.

My maths could be wrong too, I haven't done any for a while... haha

Are you sure? I have 3 PC's and that would mean my bill for them alone would be £129 per month, but my total electric bill is about £70 and thats for everything.

Notice the ninja edit, and also the fact your probably rarely on full load... And the fact your PC likely doesn't use a full 400w...

So yeah £70 sounds about right really. That's just under £25 per PC.

Dunno where you got £129 from? 3 x 32 is 96

My pc Core2duo 6600, 3 hds , 8800 and lcd uses 0.25 KWH general apps/web use.

I have one of those plugs that tells you what an appliance uses.

So that would be 6 KWH for 24 hours.

On a similar note, is anyone in a house with 6 people who use a fair bit of electricity? And how much is it costing you? Im asking because im moving into a house for my second year of uni soon and want to get and idea of how much electricity we will use and how much its goning to hurt my pocket. :)

There are 6 of us here. We spend about £20 per week on leccy including a server on 24/7 plus everyone has their own PC plus 360's etc. We're pretty heavy users.

Normally have my PC on about 8 hrs a day, leccy bills always around £140 a quarter, most of thats taken up by washing machine, dryer, power shower etc....

312hrs has used 60.29kWh here, this includes monitor, my hifi & running seti 24/7

so about £6.60 for 13 days use.

pulling 248W just now with my C2D @3GHz.

Thanks for your responses burnsy2023, LoadsaMoney and Meridian much appreciated, has given me a better understaing of the costs. Its roughly looks like what i was expecting :)
