Electricity keeps tripping

For the third day in a row I came home from work today to find the electricity off in the flat and I've had to reset it. Just now, here I am on the internet and - foom - it goes off.

This has been happening a few times over the two years of occupation in this flat but never this regularly. I've asked other residents of the block at the same time that it's happened to me and it seems to be isolated to this flat. Nothing was on in the flat apart from the usual, fridge, computer... that was about it. Nothing that could have overloaded it.

Any ideas as to why this could be happening?

It could be the fridge coursing the trip to go, moisture could be getting in the electrical box or the start capacitor could be on it way out or even the compressor its self.

Other items to check are all electrical connections within the flat from light switches to sockets and light fittings.

Almost forgot, how do you get hot water?

Boiler, it's gas.

My first thought was the fridge, yes. The RCD is directly above the fridge. And the fridge does make odd noises. It goes wrrrrrrhhheeeerrrreewrrrrr.

I assume this a combi boiler, just wondering if you had a tank with econ 7 or if the tank is heated by gas and is on a time clock.

Fridges can make strange noises :p

If you have a main RCD then it's likely that the cause of this fault is an earth leakage fault.

I suggest you unplug all your appliances and then plug them in one by one. Leave your fridge until last. If it is indeed the culprit, when the motor kicks in, RCD will go.

please take a picture of your consumer unit and accessories.
Most likely its your RCD tripping taking the power out, most likely cause is water ingression into the circuit cause earth leakage. have you got any external sockets or lights? if so check that there ip44 or higher spec and that there in good condition.
If its still tripping have a look in your attic/ bathroom, number of times a small leak or condensation has caused a trip in friends houses..

Like others have said. First thing is to unplug as many electrical appliances as possible (obviously not fridge/freezer etc for the min) if it does not trip it rules out that lot.
