The supply voltage will also have a variance (probably close to 10% also?) so it can still be out of spec.

The supply voltage is also AC so the voltage quoted is an average. The UK is commonly quoted as being 240V whereas in reality it is closer to 230V when taken as an average over the cycle.
 
No kettles in the hotel room?

I once worked with a man who's wife had recently had a baby. ( No shocks there)
They were going on holiday to a caravan and he bought a larger car so he could fit a microwave in, to warm the baby's bottle.
I said why don't you use a pan with water and warm it up........

The look of shock/amazement was immeasurable
 
No kettles in the hotel room?

State of the average hotel room kettle - I'd bring my own. And that isn't cheap hotels either.

Though did stay in a B&B the other day that was pretty reasonable priced and the kettle was immaculate (and not new).
