Was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what might be going off:
I'm sure this was entirely unrelated but last night around 2am I flipped all the lights off (I'm using Hue) and the electrics tripped. I went to reset the RCD and everything came back on and I went to sleep. I woke up this morning and it had tripped again. I went to reset the RCD and it kept flipping off instantly.
Working down the RCDs it's the "ground floor ring main" circuit that's causing it to trip. I pulled every plug I could find out the sockets and still no joy.
Looking in the distribution board (naughty - obviously I've turned it off at the outside mains and have checked for voltage afterwards) there's three cables going into this RCD: one that connects to a wall socket just next to the board and two that run under the floorboards upstairs.
If I pull the two upstairs lives out it will power on and the socket next to the board lights up. Should I connect either of those upstairs wires it trips. I doubt it's the RCD being flaky, if I move either over to another RCD it also trips that one.
Now yesterday we did get really heavy rain for 20 minutes or so but that was in the evening so a good six hours before this started happening. I've had rain cause issues before but only with outdoor sockets which, as far as I'm aware, aren't on this circuit.
Is there anything obvious I might be missing here?
Fortunately all the other circuits work so I can power the important things (router, fridge, freezer) off extension reels for the meantime.
