I have 2 key cards for my car, 1 has a dead battery but someone said if I remove the battery and replace it with a new 1, it will need re-coding...is this correct?
Renault will charge you the diagnostic fee (around £80) to recode it unless they're feeling flush. Difficult to do it outside of an authorised Renault workshop since the renault.net stuff came in and they really clamped down on the immobiliser stuff (understandably). Thats assuming its actually a card for the car, you'll be looking at £180-200 for a new replacement.
Have you had a check in the manual about what it says to do? I noticed the other day in my car (Lexus) that if you replace the battery in the fob, you then have to hold it close to the start button and press it for 5 seconds. Maybe something similar can be done?
