i need to build a box, about 8 inches wide 3 inches high and 12 inches deep with 2 holes in the rear 3 / 4cm in diameter and heres the catch... it must be able to shiel RF and microwave frequencys, i.e. mobiles, radio, satelite, taxi`s ect ect, the only signals i want comming from and going to that box are the ones carried by the wires to the device inside it. The catch is i need to be able to do this relatively cheaply.

What u need is a Faraday cage, as your building a box it makes things more easier. Cheapest option is to line the inside of the box totaly with foil which will act as a screen from any radio frequency interference

i tried wrapping the object in foil once and that didnt seem to work

nope... should i have ? :/ presumably to ground it i would just hook an earth wire up to the foil and plug it into the mains ?

^^ yep, croc clip should be OK
make sure the foil joints are folded over, maybe get some DIY foil tape.

to cover the 3cm holes, get some v.fine steel mesh and ground that.
the incoming cables would need to be connected too

btw. would a big Quality Street tin do ?

...so what is this box going to house ?

im housing a small amplifier for my medusa 5.1 headset, the interfearence it picks up is crazy...
