Is there much point waiting for 1 , is the noise & reliability going to be improved ? :D
 
Several threads on this already.
Basically I doubt it'll be any different or more reliable than any other 360 built at the same time.
I'm still going to get one if they are not too dear though, 99% of the reason being because it is black lol.

Same here, a black 360 will look nice sitting alongside my ps3
 
I have read an article (which I cant link, was gotten from a legit news site but the site that they linked that took it apart do modding) which shows the elite and normal 360 motherboards superimposed on one another.

The Elite has some different components on the mb apart from the hdmi stuff ( next to the gpu and cpu and over by the power ) and a different revision number for the cpu and gpu, it also has extra large daubs of sealant around the cpu and gpu sockets, as they surmised, as a quick bdoge it fix to the three rings from board warping.

Is there any indication that a 360 premium from the same production line built on the same day does not have the extra daubs of sealant etc? Inciddentally the application of sealant is known as "potting" and is extremely common and would have course be easy to add to all mother boards. I doubt it would "fix board warping" whereas a couple of additional screws might....

Ok read the original article now. The potting is intended to stop the GPU and CPU from breaking connections IF the board warps - is the theory of the article writer. I think that is what you originally wrote as opposed to it stopping the board warping?
The second point of note is that the elite board is not being compared to a premium board of the same time period.
A third point is that the article author feels that the reduced numbers of components MIGHT indicate that it has the 65nm architecture, the author will run power consumption tests to see if he can clarify.
I forget what the US$ price was, anyone know?

Yes sorry, thats what I meant, not that it stops the warping but the extra potting (you learn something new every day) might help it not separate and break connections when it does warp.

Dont think theres any point linking it as Virii has summed it up more eloquently with counterpoints and an expert eye.

I am pretty sure we can't link either the main xbox site that carries the story or the original site as both contain links to modding and illegal activity.

No need to apologise, you explained it fine I just read what you posted wrongly.
 
I must have found a different link, the news item I found was on a safe site (podcast and forums and news) but as you say the article itelf is on a modding site.

The original article is from a modding site and the first place I looked for it was the main xbox modding site. AFAIK we can not link to anything that has links to modchips etc.
If you link is free from those it should be fine and if not a mod will remove it.
 
I wish they would announce a UK release date.

With mines just bricking, i am reluctant to get one and even more reluctant with this around the corner.
 
i can't belive they've packed it with the frickin NOISIER hitachi dvd drives?

at this present moment i'm really hating microsoft for ruining my hopes of truly falling for the 360 !
 
I'm gonna get an Elite for when Halo 3 comes out, since my current Xbox has had the firmware flashed and who knows if it'll be banned by then.
I'm just gonna sell my current for cheap to my 10 year old cousins for christmas, that'll fund the Elite.

@doc, nitpicking for the win?
