Elite: Dangerous will launch on Xbox One.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced the console port of Frontier's space game during a presentation at GDC this evening.

In a follow-up press release, Frontier said the Xbox One version includes all content added to the PC version by February's Community Goals content update and March's Wings content update.

The March's Wings update will be released for the PC version next week. Here's the official blurb: "Wings will empower players to help protect friends on a risky trade run, spread out to map systems or hunt prey, and work together to reshape the galaxy."

Elite: Dangerous launches on Xbox One this summer. We'll have more from Frontier boss David Braben soon.

Nice. I was hoping to be able to play this without having to purchase a new PC.

just read this myself, would be good if they use kinect for head tracking. Will it be the same persistent universe as your PC and Mac comrades?

EDIT: yes :D

When asked, I’ve said we’d be mad not to consider bringing Elite: Dangerous to console. Well, that madness is about to end! Today we’re announcing that we will be bringing the full Elite: Dangerous to Xbox One this year. Xbox players have supported Frontier well over the years, and thanks to games like Zoo Tycoon and ScreamRide we know the hardware well, so Xbox One is a natural fit for Elite: Dangerous’ console debut.

Elite: Dangerous on Xbox One will be the complete and authentic Elite: Dangerous experience. It will not be "dumbed down". We’ll be working with an all-new audience, but that doesn’t mean a change in direction for the game, and nor does it mean slowing development on the PC version. The second of our updates – Wings – is being beta tested by some of you right now, and the third will be coming in the spring, free of charge. We’ll be talking more about the third major update – Powerplay – soon!

More players across more formats means we can devote more resources to development. The more players we have, the better the game will become. Elite: Dangerous is a living game and it will keep growing on all our formats so long as people are excited to play it.

I’m also pleased to announce PC, Mac and Xbox One players will all share the same overarching narrative and galaxy state. That means even more players contributing to the wars, power struggles and Community Goals across the galaxy.

If you want to keep up to date on our Xbox One release you can sign up to be kept informed at http://www.elitedangerous.com/xboxone .

With the new Mac and Xbox One players joining us we’ll see new faces on the forums and we hope you’ll make them feel welcome. The Elite: Dangerous community has always been strong, and I’m sure it’ll be even stronger the more it grows.

Thanks for playing, and Right On, Commanders.

David Braben

Thats great news for those of us who don't have a powerful desktop but want to play it in all it's glory! looking forward to this!!

Console debut? Hence its coming to ps4 shortly after and no doubt have project Morpheus support...

Cross play with PC Mac players, if console players with gamepads will get destroyed with PC Mac gamers and flight sticks... Need to read more into this one not all seems cut and dry IMO.

Same universe but wont interact from what Ive understood so not really cross-platform beyond the outcomes of any actions...

Be interesting to see what VR kits it supports, in particular the 'new' Valve one

ps3ud0

Obviously OR, but gives us an idea how it would feel on Morpheus - come along way from wire-frames...

ps3ud0

That was quite nicely done. Keeping my eye on Morpheus and its potential. Not convinced atm but it could be the beginnings of something quite great.

Perfect game this one for Morpheus IMO. Provided they can resolve motion sickness. Be interesting to see how it all progresses...

Good to see David go on record and truly admit its just timed and they'll launch on other platforms.. Finally some straight talking. Which I suspect wont impress ms, as most will just think... Meh, I'll wait for the ps4 version if they don't own an xbone..

Looks like it will use use Kinect for voice and head tracking thank god... :)

The foundations for our upcoming Xbox One version of Elite: Dangerous have been in from the earliest days of the project, with Xbox controller support in some of the earliest builds, and the entire game built on our homegrown Cobra engine.

Cobra has powered games like Kinectimals and Kinect Disneyland Adventures for Xbox 360, and Zoo Tycoon and ScreamRide for Xbox One.

Just received this email:

Happy launch day fellas.
Today's new letter.

Dear Commander,

Elite Dangerous has officially landed today for Xbox One!

We’d like to thank you for playing the demo of Elite Dangerous for Xbox One in the Game Preview Program. We appreciate you joining us to trade, fight and explore in our galaxy.

There will be a few changes that as we transition from the Game Preview Program over to the full game, so head over to our community forum post to find out more.

To celebrate the launch of Elite Dangerous for Xbox One, we have a whole day of events planned. There will be an AMA with members of the Elite Dangerous Xbox One team on the Xbox One Official Subreddit from Midday to 3PM BST. Afterwards, Community Manager Ed Lewis will be hosting a four-hour live stream bringing in even more guests from the development team, including Frontier CEO and Elite co-creator David Braben. We will also reveal a new exclusive Community Goal for Xbox One players and a competition hosted on the Xbox One Subreddit.

Fly Safe, Commander.

Regards,

The Frontier Team

I never did get round to trying this. Faffing about having to need a separate Frontier login for the Xbone version just stopped it in its tracks and I went off and did something else.

Even better :D I'm not buying an Xbox one just for this, and my PC isn't powerful enough. :p

You'd be surprised at how little power will run it.

And yes, same persistent universe but not the same instancing so you wont have xbox and pc players fighting each other directly.

Performance seems much improved from the game preview version. Had I known that ships would be kept I may have put a little more time into it. Ideally I would like the ability to use my PC account on the Xbox.

Has anyone actually played this on the forum? £30 at game and I'll be playing it tonight, its original and generally top game. Good reviews too. Love it on the PC but playing it on a couch will be amazing for me.
