EMA

I got EMA - it made me stay in school, too - £20 a week to do something I should've been doing anyway?! get in!

Yes I did, but that doesnt make it a forum taboo subject, it just makes it a bunch of people with strong opinions that some dont agree with.

Every time someone mentions it the same arguements come up. I can't be bothered to debate whether it is a taboo or not i'm in a crappy mood.

That £10 normally goes on a 20 crate of Grolsch or something similair

Going to have to get myself another job soon, EMA just doesnt cut it :p

CIS !

ahah, I said that I live with my grandmother, so now I get the full £30 a week... which is to me fair if others are getting it when their parents are on the dole (both of mine are full time, 9-5 - yet i wouldnt of gotten a penny)

anyway, i've been there 4 weeks got £100 bonus for staying on aswell as 60£

<---- Happy

2 19" lcd from ocuk soon :D

ahahahaha! you're just asking for it there

I wonder if they got rid of EMA the money saved could get rid of university top-up fees because that would be worthwhile.

EDIT: I think a much better argument against EMA, rather than just saying that 'we' couldn't get it, is that it's tax payers money going nowhere. EMA doesn't produce any positive results - you can't say 'because of that money the country is now better because X' - whereas if it was spent on teaching resources, the NHS, police etc you could. If you were to say there are 30 kids in a class and that half of those are getting £30 a week - that's £450 or £23,400 a year - enough to pay for a new policeman per class

I dont see the point in EMA, i had to work a 2 hour job every night after school if i wanted some cash and didnt get anything from my parents.

When my girlfriend was in school she had EMA, but i feel hers was justified. She was living with her mum who was a sinlge parent to too and only on < 20k a year so the mrs probably needed it.

a lot of people who get it dont deserve it. I work in an estate agents, we have a nationwide branch in our offices also. The ammount of times i see little scrotes coming in to withdraw there ema and you just know there going to buy fags with it !

Pah

my parents pay the same taxes that your parents/you (didn't bother to check your age) pay. And its a lame excuse really, if they didn't give it to family's with less income, then they would probably ship it to other EU country's along with the other millions in child benefits!

I don't think its lame to state that I would rather see the money I give to government (and you can't say that you pay the same as me when you don't know what I'm paid) go to things which benefit myself. I would rather see it going towards improving roads, hospitals and the quality of education rather than paying people to go to school.

in the olden days, a lot of things were different. do you moan about everything that's changed? mars bars aren't 2 and 6 anymore

People tend to moan about stuff that changes for the worse. EMA definitely falls into that category. Put simply: it's a waste of money and can't be justified.:)

If this thread "infuriates" you, then you need to get away from the keyboard and get some fresh air IMO.

why is that?

IMO why is it fair that kids these days get £30 a week for doing what i have done for free, and complain about that it hasnt come, and that they might have to wait a week or two. They shouldnt get it in the ******* first place. ****** to the government who introduced. Biggest waste of tax payers money. There is only one person on this thread who is using the money wisely and saving for uni (he could just be saying this) however, every one else is spending it on crap stuff, yup the government thought this one through all right.

I think there's a few massively more important examples of "unjustifiable waste of money" than EMA, like the war.

why is that?
See above, you should put all that "fury" into more important issues. Talking priorities here.
