Email spambots

I have just received an email from my grandads email account (hotmail, yes sigh) My parents also got the email.

"click here to see the attached video" or whatever. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I expect it to keep sending out spam emails.

Not sure how these things work, but will tell him to change password and do a scan on the PC.

Or do you think there is no way to fix this and emails will keep getting sent?

Changing the password should suffice I'd have thought, and any security questions along with it.
