Email writing - how to start?

Writing a formal email business related. I know the name of the woman to whom I am writing, but no correspondance has been entered into previously.

So, if it was a man, I would start "Dear Mr Bloggs", but since it's a woman do I use Miss, Mrs, or Ms?

I'm hot on the rest of writing an effective email etc, this just stumped me.

The old distinction between married (Mrs + surname) and unmarried (Miss + surname) are no longer used. Instead, use Ms (+ surname). Ms is pronounced (Mizz) and is used for all women – whether married or not.

For anything formal I just use Sir/Madam regardless of whether I know their name.

Just go for the first name. I would email my managing director with his first name. End with 'Regards'
