I generally love Flash, I think it's a great way to make animations and it's obviously a superior way of delivering movies rather than using MPGs as Google Video and Youtube seem to use it.

But is it getting abused on the internet? We're getting more and more advertising on websites and a lot of it is now in the form of Flash. This is fine but the capabilities of Flash means it can jump up in front of what you're trying to read, hover across and it's hard to ignore.

What if we don't want to see it? Traditionally we could just block advertising from ads.mediaplex etc quite easily as it was all animated gifs. There are the likes of Flashblock for Firefox or you can just leave it uninstalled, but then you get constant notifications about needing the lastest version of Flash and you can't view content on most video hosting sites.

So what do we think about Flash and where it's going? Is it amazing or is it just going to become a pain in the backside?

Ads that jump up and move accross your screen are generally nothing to do with flash, they could be plain images or even whole other web pages. It's javascript that makes them jump up or move accross the screen, not flash.

Meh, ah well. Was just having a rant about Flash really. I think it's sneaky that if you block images in Firefox they come back at you with a Flash advert instead which you can't block as easily.

YouTube has always used the flash video format  , probably one of the reasons it's popularity multiplied so quickly, such a good player.

Edit: oops, mis-read the op, ignore. :o
