but its 50,000 for the entire world (6,500,000,000). as if you have hope in hell?

work visa maybe

eb3 unlikely

greencard highly unlikely

We have more chance if we apply so we will and see how it goes. :)

Only around 8 mil apply. Still not good odds.

the uk is never on the diversity list anyway because we send over so many people through the other programmes. who told you it would be back on?

we send over loads of doctors, nurses, businessmen, etc every year

wouldnt it be helpful to the OP if people didnt start bitching between each other about the positive/negative sides of moving?
If the guy wants to move, which I want to in a few years, then give him advice, not bitch between yourselves on which country is better :)

I was assuming because of the way it said they were done.

I fully expected the bitching, no point asking for it not to happen as people can't help themselves ;).

It will be almost impossible to get a green card through a US employer from the UK, you cant just apply for a job & get a green card unless you have a unique talent / difficult to find skill (e.g college professor / surgeon etc)

Speaking from experience ..the easiest way is to work for a multinational & apply internally for a vacancy, even then it takes some effort on the employers behalf to arrange everything, they have to show they cant find a US citizen to do the job (this will include nationally advertising the vacancy etc) & have no choice but to bring in someone from outside the US.

and even then its only a temporary work visa, not a green card

Cliff & Jodie

I added you to MSN. This is something both M& Mrs L are going through at the moment and moving out to Florida. Moreso that Sarah(Mrs L) was told that she along with around 2000 other people at her place are being made redundant. We have spent a hell of a lot of time and money getting information off the right people and the wrong people.

If you want any info then just add me and I am more than happy to help out where we can.

One thing that will be changing in the very near future is that the E2 Visa holders will be allowed to apply for permanent residency after 5 years

I always love the people who argue about living in the US - everytime!

I just have to say - its a place you'd either love to live or hate to live.
I so happen to love living there :D

Cant really offer much advice im afraid but I moved to the states as of this January on a student visa (to be with my g/f) she earns good money and the exchange rate on my savings and everything else has made my bank balance double lol
Since moving there I love it - people are super friendly, the weather is perfect (snow in the winter, sun in the summer) everything is real cheap, loads & loads of stuff do and see, opportunities for everything, selection of choice if beyond belief AND I have been in one traffic jam in 6months!!!! :) lol
But if you are serious about moving over there I would spend time on where you are going to go and plan plan and plan ahead -these things take ages and is not a quick process.

Good luck to the both of you!! You'll love it

im torn between asia and the usa

One or the other I'd say, its got to be better than this place (Im in the UK for 2 more wks on hols and cant WAIT to go back)
I lived in Oz prior to the states for a while - was a cool experience but dont think I could live there for good. Seems a bit slow and behind the times. Plus its too dam far away - my family could never really pop over for a week for example.
I have a year and a half left before we have decide what the gameplan is - could be to move to Cali or some other random country, i like not overly knowing where we'll be in a couple years time :)

I dunno why anyone would want to leave England .. good lord ! no football in yankland

A lot of people say why would you want to leave England to us. Without doubt it is the biggest decision of our life. I am sorry if some people find this offensive but England isn't the be all and end all of everything in my life. I, as my wife, have paid into the system for well over ten years. I am seeing a lot of social decay and the trend is not being bucked in anyway shape of form.

Of course the grass isn't always greener on the other side. However I wan't to enjoy a reasonable standard of living for myself and my family without being penalised for it at every single opportunity. It's hard to explain why America but unless you have been then it doesn't mean that much. I know there's crime, poverty, political correctness the same as here. The difference is that there is still a great sense of community. And if truth be known a greater standard of living to be had. I don't think its that much of a crime as some people would believe to want to live away from England and enjoy a better life
