Emissions Zone

Surely it will cause more congestion with goods being loaded onto several smaller lorries than a single large.

There again maybe thats the idea to gain more fuel tax, road tax, congestion charge etc.

More thieving stealth taxes.

The low emissions zone is being extended to include smaller lorries and vans later this year.

I'd be interested to know what are the ramifications for foreign truckers since they're not registered with the DVLA, and also there are an increasing number of trucks from countries that have not been in the EU for very long. I've got a bad feeling the answer is they'll be able to ignore it.

Vehicles registered outside Great Britain
All vehicles registered outside Great Britain will have to register with TfL if they are to be used within the LEZ, even if they meet the required emissions standards.

* Operators of vehicles with an engine listed on the Eligible Engines List will need to register with TfL, providing a manufacturer's type approval certificate that shows the engine make and model

So no, hopefully they won't get away with it :)

www.tfl.gov.uk/lez - it's on there somewhere

what about the stinky pieces of **** buses etc aswell. do they get charged 200 quid. i doubt it.

Won't this mean that old trucks will reduce in price, enabling smaller companies to operate more, just outside of london....?

They will reduce to an extent, however, you have to appreciate that a 2000 registered HGV will be absolutely shagged out after 7 years of use (The 57 plate truck I was in last night had already covered 110k miles!)

a lot of haulage business is to the London area, so many would still get caught out.

As for Johnny Foreigner, as already with speeding fines, they will stick two fingers up at us.

Spent an hour reading through the manual of the DAF 105 last night, could I find a paragraph about low emissions? - No! :o
