Empathy Quotient

22 answering honestly. But I don't think these tests are actually very good, most of the questions can't really be lumped into the categories.

Your Empathy Quotient score was 63 out of a possible 80.

Scores above 30 are generally not indicitive of an Autism Spectrum disorder.

Higher scores indicate greater levels of empathy.

What makes you say that? I ask because it's not just some random online test - I'm thinking of the bogus IQ ones which are trying to sell certificates - this test is by Simon Baron-Cohen... someone who's very much respected in this field.

It did seem legit to me as I know am not very empathic towards others.

As the teaches used to say to me "You have a bad attitude lad!" You can guess what I said? :D

Well...as an example: question 1.

"I can easily tell if someone else wants to enter a conversation"

Can you? Or do you simply believe you can? Not you personally but you get what I mean.

Thats why they have other questions which are a little harder to parse.

Respeck!

Why is it considered a good thing to have empathy?

It is just a stupid social rule developed over time.. I think that a lot of empathy and/or kindness etc. can actually be detrimental to the survival of our species..

For example, take every penny ever invested in starving countries with arrid land and booming populations and invest it in western R&D...

People will die regardless.

I got 19/60 btw.

Do you cry over romcoms?

no, I am actually very cold emotionally, and very few things 'affect me' what I am good at is reading other peoples emotions,

I can tell within seconds if someone within a company of friends (say 10-20 people) is having an off day, simply by looking at everyone and 'scanning' them,

I also use it to my advantage, because I pick it up, people like to talk to me and tell me whats going on, I am also very trust worthy and never gossip about others problems.

this is useful when you are actively seeking out the 'bigger picture' of what is going on around you in work and personal life.

Does seem a slightly weird test as caring and understanding and not mutually exclusive traits...
Whatever - I scored 32. Not surprised!

You, sir are my long lost twin :D

I do have emotional moments, though. Usually through music seeing as I'm a bit of a music geek.

I never cry at funerals and the only film that ever "got" me was Green Mile. :p

You're basically saying that as you get older, you realise that most people are horrible and that your idealistic dream of humanity is crumbling before you...

In layman's terms yes basically. :p

The is no idealistic approach to life but the is an underlining subjugate that's wrecking my balls.

Same here - scored 36/80 which I'd guess is about right, empathic to others and a great "shoulder to cry on" for friends/family. However, despite being very socially active and "fun bloke" my private personality tends towards being emotionally numb and what helps is that I can just flip a switch between what friends/family need me to be at that moment to help them the most, and the second I don't need to be that person any more, I can just switch it back off and be "me" again.

Maybe I shouldn't post after being to the pub, way too serious man! :D
