So you are vpning a personal machine into the network? Thats the first mistake your IT are making!
My IT department are making many mistakes. Security was obviously a massive issue as it would be at any local authority. As a user I had to go through IT to download anything at all to my work machine and rightly so, our internet access was monitored etc etc. Lockdown hit and everything went out of the window in order to get us up and running at home and ensure service continuity. I totally get that because we were all in uncharted waters. There wasn't enough laptops to go round and the kit to enable me to take the work computer home and remain on the network was selling out worldwide so I was happy to use my own computer and in that respect I still am. I have my own computer, MacBook and iPad and can use any combination. However if we are rolling out working from home on a permanent basis its not unreasonable to require a more permanent solution? We are using our own mobile phones just now, again fine in the short term but should we have to give out our personal mobile numbers to work contacts? Again I don't think so. Similarly in the office my work area was always being assessed for health and safety and risk assessments etc. Lockdown hits and no one seems to care if you are sitting on a wooden chair in your shed. Once again, fine in the short term but it cant be assumed to be permanent.
Lastly I have no separation of work and home life. The desk and computer Im sitting at for work is the one Im sitting at right now typing this and is the one I was sitting at on Saturday night with a couple of beers and a Zoom chat and poker game with my friends. I don't think thats healthy.
My initial point that I was jumped on for was simply that arrangements that you will put up with in a spirit of "we are all in this together" cant be assumed to be acceptable long term in my view.
