Emptying the loop for transport - what is the danger of corrosion?

Hi All,

I need to move house, and I hope you can advise me what to do with my PC rig to transport it safely.

Loop is made of EK fittings and EK CPU block for Intel i9-7900X and it has as a part of it EVGA Hydro Copper 1080 Ti.

So the details of the travel are:
  • PC will move between the two countries (long journey and a good few bumps in the car),
  • PC will be laying on the side of it,
  • the reservoir is closed and sealed (EK pump/reservoir combo), but to avoid the leak, I am planning to drain it the whole loop
  • the loop may stay dry-ish for a few days before I will refill it.

Now the question is:

Will the dry loop gets air inside for a few days don't get corroded?

I am a little bit in a catch 22 ;)

I don't want to risk a leak, but I don't want my loop to get corrosion inside.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Regards

Adam

I would pack the inside of the case with material that would soak up any water and stop any movement of parts.

This.

How about flushing the loop with alcohol after you've drained it? That should get rid of any water. Do consider a partial disassembly, removing the GPU.

Absolutely do not flush it with alcohol. This will kill any acrylic you have in the loop.

When I moved, I simply drained the PC completely, removed the GPU and closed the gap in the loop with a temporary piece.
Packed everything full with some towels and it did survive the transport between countries (road and ferry) unscathed.
IIRC it was travelling for about 2-3 days and I did not get any corrosion or the likes.

no corrosion will happen .. do not worry.. i wouldn't even drain the loop.. I transported my watercooled pc from poland to uk in my car over 1000miles..
it was completely fine..
do you have original box for your case?

BAse on your advice I will drain the loop and close it.
I will drop a bunch of paper towels into the case - just in case ;)
Thank you very much for all your help Gents.
Topic to close.

Adam
