What is better and why?

I currently use emule plus and a couple of sites where I get the links - seems to be loads more stuff avail on emule network (or am i wrong), but loads of people use torrents? Is one much quicker? Don't you need memberships etc to use torrents? Sorry ... total noob to the land of torrents.

You can reply via pm to me if that is better?

utorrent

Emule is good for rare stuff, but is also the slowest p2p network these days, I used to swear by it ( about 2 or perhaps even 3 years ago), having downloaded&uploaded over 1 TB on the ed2k network, but torrents got me now, although I download very few stuff now, it's a lot faster than ed2k, I renember I downloaded a 3 gb file for 2 months on emule . On torrents I can easely max out my connection.

Emule is also very unsafe atm, it's infected with leechers, fake trackers ( sorry, servers, used to saying trackers now coz of torrents lol), and anti p2p fanatics, 1 out of approx 5 connects I get on emule is blocked by peerguardian being a non goodwilling p2p user.

You don't need memberships, but private tracker sites where u need to be member are a lot better, as they ban leechers and always remove fake stuff etcetc...
I can't mention good torrent sites sorry, as they have warez on them and the admins on these forums seem to dislike warez talk.
There's no PM option either.

In short about torrents:
Torrents work by just getting a torrent file from a site, open it, and it adds itself into utorrents download list, it conencts to a tracker requesting the ip's of other peers, and then u start downlaoding & uploading with other peers.

Pretty much what snowdog said, use to love emule back in the day (2-3 years back) I think thats when it was in its prime.

The servers seem very messy on emule at the moment cos I just tried it recently... didnt have much success in searches and downloads either.

Ended up just copying the file name and adding the word torrent on the end on google and multiple hits just came up and downloading within hours.

Perhaps its the end for the donkey ! Either way Torrent is much faster and u wont be able to go back to using emule afterwards.
