how do you enable AA and AF? i always just enable them in the games options, but obviously i never get the options for anything more than 4xAA maybe 8xAA, and AF is never there.

Do you guys use the CCC?

AF is in most games for years now, you realise its called Anisotropic Filtering in most games right?

In game AA is generally fine but sometimes you may want to force it in the control panel (using profiles for the games) to get a higher amount.

Bear in mind that enabling in game and the control panel at the same time will generally cause the game to turn to suck fps.

ati useres cant use profiles like nvidia users can. so you have to set the global setting in you CCC or which ever control panel you are using.

You can set up as many profiles as you like in CCC for all your games, just need to load the profile before you load the game, no big deal.

its a big deal when you have kids who want to just play a game on the pc and not know how to load up profiles themselves etc.

this is another thing ati have not been able to crack since they began making gfx cards. nvidia really do have it sussed on the driver side when it comes to profiles.

LOL kids, think they are going to give a dam if AF is enabled, stupid excuse. You can even launch profiles from the system tray menu, how hard is that.

yea, they will give a darn since they will believe thier consoles have better gfx than the pc does if they see jaggies or blurry textures. cant really use ati cards for gaming with such an important feature missing.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOK, CCC has profiles you can setup for all your games, right click on ATI tray menu icon, launch profile for whatever game you have made a profile for, what feature is missing again?:o

Consoles, please????. 7800GTX and X1900 equivalent cards in the PS3 and Xbox 360 Mav?. The Xbox360 is blurry and jaggies a plenty are to be seen and I think the PS3 is the same so I don't really get what you're aiming at here. Also once you set the AA/AF/ graphic settings in-game on the PC they don't revert so unless you're letting the kids play ancient games that do not have AA/AF options then you're point seems less important.

If they believe the PC looks worse than the consoles then get their bloomin' eyes tested already. Mav, sometimes you talk sense then other times you use anything at all to try and make your point seem valid and this isn't one of them. Sorry.

Face it mav you just keep on using excuses to talk yourself out of getting an ATi card you know the kids excuse it total BS get a grip.

Totally agree, consoles arent bad but have nowhere near the visual quality that the latest generation PC hardware does.

I have a PS3 running on a decent sony 1080p TV and whilst it does look good with certain titles that actual run at that res (most are 720p), generally speaking my old school rig with its 8800 GTX looks better for the most part.

I have just gone from an 88800gts to a sapphire HD4870 and i aint goin back :p

HD4870 blows the 8800gts away in games and in 3dmark06 :p

The lack of automatic profiles is the reason there's no nHancer for ATi. It's a bit of a black mark against them, can't be hard to implement.

must be a hardware problem or some real deep down driver issues if they cant have nvidia style game profile setup. its something ati shoudl really be looking into if they want to create a all round package for end users.

kids and even grown-ups use the media pc and they dont have a clue on how to use CCC to set AA and AF for games and they just want to launch a game and get straight into it. setting up custom profiles with nvidia cards is real simple and lets people just launch the game and have it run without any issues.

i just install the games , set the profile and test it out and job done.

but as i say its something others can live without, and some cant. i have a lot of old games installed on the media pc, stuff like barbie ice skating etc which have huge amount of blurry textures and massive jaggies on the 32inch tv.
deffo need the nvidia profiles to sort stuff out for all these individual games.
if i have to pay the premium for just this 1 feature alone id pay it for its convenience.
and seeing as how the price of the gtx280 and 260 are comming down that premium seems to drop more and more.

I use a global setting in ATI Tray Tools (I use the non-CCC Catalyst drivers), and turn it off when I don't want it enabled.

As for Nvidia - I don't use the profiles (since a lot of games I have are old), again I use a global setting with the old-style control panel.

yeah i do know what Af etc stands for, thanks for the information. I usally dont bother with AA to extreamly high levels i much prefer better looking effects etc. I will see what i make of max AA though though the CCC. I found in the past i really didnt want to enable AA for everything and couldnt be bothered to switch between profiles manually so i just used the ingame configs.
