Enabling max h/d capacity when istalling XP

Basic question this but when installing a large capacity h/d (say 250gb or 320gb) and reinstalling XP, how do you enable max storage space so that the h/d shows as one complete 250gb or 320gb physical drive and not a 160gb drive?

normally when installing XP , you will have the option to format the HD and that should format to the max.

You need to use an XP disk which has at least SP1 slipstreamed onto it to enable 48bit LBA support.
