I recently got a Connect 3d X1800XT and I am using the latest Omega drivers for it (catalyst 6.7)

When I open the overclocking tool on ATI Tray Tools it says "Overclocking disabled". Mr overdrive settings look like this.

Doesn't that mean that overclocking should be enabled?

ATI Tray Tools doesn't yet support overclocking on the X1800/X1900 series, I'm afraid. You either have to use Catalyst's overdrive feature or disable the 2D/3D mode switch and use ATI Tool.

I don't have a link but there's a guide on this forum. You need to disable two services in Windows XP responsible for the switching, then you have to adjust the voltage and clocks back to stock in ATI Tool before getting started on overclocking.

I got the same card a few days ago and am trying to overclock it now. You will have to download ATI Tool to overclock this card.

Or you could just use the CCC and clock it in overdrive and save all the hassle ;)

It's my opinion that Overdrive actually lies about the clocks as on stock cooling it went up to max for me in that with my X1800XT but I needed a VF900 to get the same clocks with ATI Tool (keeping stock cooler on default dynamic speeds.) It's also well-known that Overdrive slackens memory timings on the X1K cards, yet another reason I despise Catalyst Control Centre.

If you want to OC an X1K properly, you should never use Overdrive. ;) Less hassle because there's less OC.

Yeah if you want to overclock with other drivers then you have to use ATi Tool as other drivers can't do it yet, if you want to overclock in the drivers then you have to use the Official ones with the CCC. :)

Don't get me wrong I know that using Ati tools is better, but its also a hassle that some people would rather do without.
In real terms the difference between a clocked card using ccc and one using ati tray isn't going to be huge, maybe a few fps. I understand some people like to get the absolute max out of there cards, and I done the same with my last few cards, but some people like a nice easy boost and thats what the ccc does.

Most people don't actually play with OCs though, I do personally but most people only bother for benchmarking and every MHz makes a difference in a 3D Mark score. Under those conditions you don't want an OCing app that lies.
