Enabling SPDIF on a Gigabyte GA-K8NE

Chaps,
I have a Gigabyte motherboard which has a coaxial SPDIF on the back.
At the present I appear to be getting zero output from it and my DAC has nothing to lock onto.
I can't see anything obvious in the BIOS, or within the NVidia NVMixer about being able to enable/disable it.

Got any good ideas?
Should I install the AC97 drivers?

Good news on the MB. Went to the Gigabyte website, checked around and found a set of AC97 drivers under their Support/Technology section.
Installed the new drivers and now have SPDIF enabled. Happy bunny!
