enabling wake-on-lan on a nf7?

Strange the manual says it can't do wake-on-lan, unless it differs on a v2.0 (doesnt actually say can't but there's no metion of a wake-on-lan feature)

It can however do wake-on PCI device and wake-on USB.

I can't remember if I had to enable anything in the BIOS on mine but I definatly had to enable it in windows to get it working.

See this screenshot (From System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> [network card device] -> Properties -> Power Management)

Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby - means that when the network card receives any traffic it will come out of standby.

Only allow management stations to bring the computer out of standby - means that you must send the network a magic packet to bring it out of standby, this stops random probes from your router waking it up.

thanks a lot!

just wondering, what is the magic packet which needs to be sent? does it just do this automatically when someone turns their pc on?

A magic packet is basically a packet that is broadcast on a network addressed to a specific MAC address that contains a special message telling the device to wake up.

This stops the computer waking up for every sign of network activity, such as a router quering a network device to see if it is still there.
