Encoding to HEVC, what to use?

Want to re-encode some films to reduce file size side my dads tablet is only 16GB and has no microSD slot.

What software is any good for this task, preferably with CUDA acceleration.
 
True. I know of no CUDA-based x265 encoders but if you require assured quality then x264 and x265 encoders are your best choices.

These days it appears that Nvidia is more focused on its NVEnc hardware encoder solution, although this is more tailored for online streaming rather than quality video capture.

cheers, I give it a go on a folder of films, have 8 oc'd threads going at it so it should be OK.
 
You'll only get about a 25% reduction in file size between x265 and x264 (for example). Surely not worth the faff of re-encoding?

NVENC is probably your best bet.
