Had my iPhone 4S had nearly a year now, I like it but am getting just a bit bored. For some reason I want a change, possibly as I want something larger but not too large (galaxy note).

Been interested in the S3 for a few weeks, I had the Galaxy S for a few months, I just found it quite slow compared to iPhones and therefore got rid of it. Obviously the S3 is so much faster than the S and I assume on par with the iPhones now.

I don't like my phone without the jailbreak as I miss the ability to have quick reply, ability to quickly disable wi-fi, lock apps etc. I know android can do these things.

How is the battery on the S3? My iPhone can be hit and miss, just did a restore and only used 50% today - but I haven't touched it much at all.

Why should I buy the S3? What's so special?

I'd really go and have a play on one and see if you like it as some iPhone peeps really don't get on with Android after using the simplistic iOS. Most people get about 5 hours screen on time out of a charge.

Yeah I think that was down to the memory system used, the processor was OK but it lagged like a bugger. Now with the S3 and its quad core processor and the updates in ICS and JB you should see no slow downs.

It was poor optimization of the filesystem on the internal storage.

I love mine.

I went from the SG1 to the S3. Amazed by the responsiveness, and the screen is great. The only downside is that it feels like you could break it easily but watching a few stress tests has given me a bit more confidence. You could also get an otterbox case to be extra careful.

Battery life isn't great to be honest. Better than my old Galaxy but still not ideal. I don't really care though because the screen is so damn nice.

If you are worried by battery life, don't, the fact you can take the back off and swap the battery for a freshly charged one is the biggest plus point of all for me. I bought the samsung extra battery kit which gives you a charger/battery case along with a spare battery that allows you to charge the spare separately to the phone. It also means that you don't need to charge the batteries quite as often. (i.e. you can come home with 20-30% left and take it out the next day without charging it as you can swap it when you need to) The only drawbacks that i've found with it are that the screen is a bit too saturated as standard and switching it to natural is too washed out. Touchwiz isn't quite as polished as the iphone interface but it's not bad either, just takes a few days to get used to.

HAd the SGS, it was stupidly slow due to the file system samsung decide to use which IIRC had 10 layers of security which made everything slow, once I had flash it to ext2/3/4 it was actual the fastest thing out at the time apart from the iPhone4.

But now Samsung has really up the game, the CPU is more or less the fastest you can get, the GPU is also the best (maybe not the new iPhone, but we will see), great storage options, really nice battery life, great screen, one of the best cameras, best video recording. The best part for me is that even at 4.8" it somehow seems to feel that it is smaller then my S2, and it fits better in my hand, some samsung magic with all its curves and it really works. In comparison the One X felt much bigger and much harder to use, although it looks and feels amazing (bar the ugly camera).

You should have a look at the Nokia 920 IMO, better than the S3 when it comes out in almost every way...;)

The reason you get bored of iOS is because it does everything it does well and you take it for granted. I have tried to move to Android a few times now (phones and tablets) and end up dumping it every time. It's like a mash up of random interfaces with a load of program's that do the same thing so you have to turn alerts and settings off all over the place.

If you're just after a phone that does SMS, email and Internet and does it well then stick to iOS. At the end of the day you have a PC to do more on if needed and it will do it much better than Android.

Think I'm going to go into a phone shop next week and have a play with the S3.

It just sounds like a good phone, simple things like being able to put the phone face down when it rings and it shuts up.

Would probably buy it used anyway, then sell my iPhone and there won't really be a difference in price. As long as it is in excellent condition.

I think your problem is that you have to "configure" an android phone.
I never have to do any of that stuff you mentioned.

Its a proper computery phone. If your not a computery type then buy an iPhone. Which is a Phoney Phone, that hides its Computery ness with Big huge touch buttons.

If someone gave me an iPhone 4s in exchange for my Galaxy s3 now i would most likely cry.

Very much doubt that, the only clear thing that it will be better at is the Camera, and the screen could be if you dont like Amoled. The rest is more or less the same, and some in favour of the S3 such as replaced battery and expandable storage, and the nokia having better touch tech. More or less even I would say, but well worth a try ;).

Really? I find that it is the best thing with mine. If I've not really used the phone it loses 1% an hour. Most days it is down to 70% when I put it on charge over night with 1 hour screen on time and maybe a call and a few texts.

I wanted to get the idle time down to 1% every 2/3 hours but I just haven't been able to do it.

It's still good though at 1%~ per hour.

I have an S3 and my wife has the 4S, I see her's as a play toy that doesn't overly do much and looks really dated.
The S3 is not on par with the iphone, it is miles ahead! The iphone 5 is not even on par with the S3 or One X.
Get one, learn more about Android and you'll love it!

It depends how you look at it and what you want, I think it's just about on par.

This guy makes a good point. I was a die hard android fan until one day last November I lost my SGSII on a night out. The next day I went to car phone warehouse and they had no SGSII and I got an iPhone (traitor!). Anyway, I never felt as though I missed Android, the iPhone did everything I needed and faster. Typing was quicker too, which is a big plus.

On Wednesday I put my iPhone in to get fixed and I am back using an Android phone (Galaxy Ace 2). I must say I still love Android, I really do. I did have to spend 2 hours configuring it to the way I liked it and I think this is the issue here. If you want something that 'just works' (dont shoot me) then get the iPhone. If you want to play around get an Android.

I am nearly 30 now and the novelty of playing around is wearing off. At the end of the day they are both fantastic platforms, but I dont think one should be ****ged off over another.

The SGIII is faster than the iPhone 4s, but so what? Its not just the speed its the OS and so forth.

Don't want to start a flame war but a balanced opinion is needed around here. There are far too many people saying "lol iphone my SGSIII is so much better and has been for months" without actually know both sides to the coin.
