Hey guys,

Looking for a USB flash drive to use while traveling that will have lots of important personal information on it I don't want potential thieves getting their hands on.

I've come across a range of products by Ironkey which seem to provide a good solution but wanted to ask people here about this before making any decisions. :)

Sandisk provide encryption on their flash drives - it is similar to truecrypt (may well be for all I know) and is compatible with Windows and Mac (but not Linux)

Truecrypt is defunt now, has been for a while, the webpage just tells you not to use it anymore.

If this is intended for my reply?

It works similar to truecrypt in that it creates a virtual drive, that you then "mount" to access the drive/data - I apologise for making a passing comment, that as far as I knew it could well be TC under the skin. A quick google implies it uses their own proprietary encryption, so it is TrueCrypt-like not TrueCrypt and so should be safe to use (as you would expect from such a large company!)

No sorry it was just aimed as information regarding the second post, we used true crypt at the company I worked for but they are migrating off it as support has been stopped. The only install available now is one for decrypting your drives. I'm sure they use propriatary encryption on their drives :)

Personally I still prefer TrueCrypt to the alternatives, and I doubt that anyone who nicks it or finds it is likely to break the encryption any time soon. Or indeed have the desire to do so.

To be fair its still a good deterrent and better than not encrypting at all...
