End of probation query

It depends on what your contract says really. I got full benefits and was a full time employee from day 1, but had a 6 month probation where either party could terminate the contract with immediate effect and no reason. All that happened after 6 months was my normal notice period kicked in. No 1:1 or anything.

However other companies may withold the full benefits package from probation employees or require performance reviews and sign off to move out of probation.

The best thing to do is just ask your boss if there's anything that needs to happen.

Basically within a year employement, any company get sack any employee for any reason they wish. Most companies don't bother and place 6 months/1 year probationary periods and meetings in place so they don't have to deal with the hassle of actually sacking someone.

It's depending on the company on how they deal with probationary periods, some HR's will assume everything is fine and that your a full employee if nothing else is said, while some will want a manager to sign off paperwork. All companies I've worked for, have always given me full employee benefits from day one.

Probationary periods can be extended upon mangement requests, we got one person who has just had his signed off after two years as his manager was a cow (that's putting it nicely) and now she's left.

I just see them as periods when you have done something naughty at work, and you just have to be good and do you your work.

I wouldn't worry personally. At our work, they don't actually tell anyone whether they've passed or not. They don't fire you after three months, so you just keep showing up for work...and all is good!

Same at my place. The only situation in which the probation period has any relevance is if a new starter is not quite up to par but could be, in which case the probation period might be extended. Maybe. It's happened once or twice in the past. Usually by the time the probation period has expired a new starter has either already gone or is a keeper.
