End of the world for the Jaaaag maybe!!

Bad luck on it being the rad, does it have platic ends like the old mondeo? An ex mullered her mondeos rad on a kerb, total and rapid loss of coolant.

The temp sensor may have been measuring the temperature of steam in your non pressurised air filling up as you speak cooling system which is difficult to get above 100C so it doesnt really tell you anything about anything.

Radiator leaking and its left running for 5 minutes?
Why?

It will soon fill with air and give you next to no cooling.

What year is it again? Some had the gearbox cooling integrated into the rad.

What is he meant to do, stop in the middle of a dual carriage-way?

Hopefully there is no significant damage.

I could not stop on a NSL road with no layby, so I put the engine into maximum gear, kept the revs to minimum and put heaters to maximum.

The temperature guage only went to maximum as I pulled off the dual carriage way to park up. No doubt because it had just ran out of water.

Its a car, I think all is fine, but stopping on a dual carriage way is reckless and dangerous, so I kept momentum to try and use cold air to help keep things cool.

Fingers crossed all is fine, because when I did lift the bonnet the engine was not that hot to the touch, all was quite cool. Just hoping change of radiator will fix the issue and all shall be fine. :)

We were trying to pinpoint the leak, kept filling up the resevoir and left the car running, 5 minutes is probably an exxageration, engine temperature whilst the RAC man was looking for the leak stayed cold, when it got close to normal we'd found the leak and turned it off. :)

Car is a 1999 S-Type, so next step is to find radiator, buy it and then get it fitted.

I dont think the Getrag 221 5 speed manual has oil cooling anyway, you can see the trans oil fittings are the M24 on the LH end tank.

I can only go back to X206 which was the S type 2006 model so cant look at the CAD of your actual car :P

What's the deal with that Advanced Radiators site?

Are they legit? seem very cheap for an OEM BMW radiator at £92.

Gone with the car parts for less website as they are part of Eurocarparts, so trusted and for my radiator at £113 for brand new they were cheapest, not original but will be fine for the Jaaaag. :)
