I'm not saying the encryption is evil, in fact I think it is great, and should exist and be implemented. The whole scenario is just the same as the feds asking to do a wiretap. All they want is access, and Apple can facilitate that without creating a backdoor that affects everyone. Heck, they aren't even asking for a backdoor, just a engineering special, a one off, that can only be loaded on to a single particular phone that disables features.Or how about I don't particularly want anyone who steals my phone to have access to all my personal data and financial information?
Anyone saying that Apple are in the wrong here needs to get a grip. Some people died because of a couple of nutcases. It's not a reason to suddenly decide that encryption is evil.
