Hi all,

My brother has 6 months remaining on an unused Vodafone contract. What's the cheapest method to end this? Do they offer a discount for lump payment of the remainder? What are their rules on dropping the tariff to a cheaper option?

Also, does somebody know how the same applies to Three?

cancel the direct debit and ingore them :D

on a serious note, not that much you can do, but if you have 6 months left i would imagine you are either half way or 2/3 through the contract, so i would imagine you are entitled to change the tariff and possibly reduce it. to a minimal amount. Most networks let you make a change (sometimes only 1 change) but i think you need to be half way through the contract. i very much doubt they will offer you a discounted lump sum payment.

Can i ask how this happened ? do you not have someone you could pass it onto at a discounted rate?

Thats what I did, canceled the direct debit and ignored haha :D

Yeh until they send the bailiffs around asking for the extortionate amount you owe as the bailiffs will want their piece of the pie.

Seriously just ring them up and ask them how much to cancel your contract...not exactly hard to do and it shouldnt be too high if its only 6mths left.

bailiffs dont make me LOL they would have to go to court at least 3 times to get bailiffs involved, they might send debt collectors round, but you can safely tell them to **** off as they have no power. Mobile companies just sell the debt on to debt collectors unless its over £500, who only bombard you with letters and phone calls
They will however trash your credit rating!

Sorry meant debt collectors not bailiffs but still not worth taking the risk for what could be a small amount compared to the bill you could get if debt collection agencies get involved;)

Vodafone contract termination charges are very reasonable. It's something ridiculous like remaining line rental x remaining months - 25% early payment discount - 17.5% VAT!

Exactly the answer I was after. Seems it's worth doing early. Cheers.
