^ Endless legend ^

I picked this game up for £14 after Civ:BE left such a bad taste in my mouth and I can't believe the bargain I received. I've been learning the ropes through playing and watching a few Let's Play series, and thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere and gameplay mechanics.

Also, there is new free DLC coming out this week for both Endless Legend and Endless Space so my gaming up until Christmas is sorted.

Superb game for sure. Civ:BE is so bland in comparison. Looking forward to the expansions for this. I love the asymmetrical factions.

Endless Legend - What a gem of a game

I am totally hooked on this game, at first it felt like Civilisation and I was going to stop playing however, its so much better than Civ and it does not feel like a grind to play, its really fun.

Picked this up at the weekend and am absolutely loving it.

If you like your Civ/Age of Wonders type games then this really hits the spot.

Some of the mechanics take a bit of getting used to and not everything appears to be fully explained, but now I've played a couple of games I'm hooked.

My only criticism is that it was perhaps a bit easy on normal difficulty.
I got around 200 turns in on my last game and someone declared war on me.
I despatched their attack and basically took my 6 unit army led by a hero on a rampage that conquered half the world. Rarely was there any danger of me losing a unit, let alone a battle...
Will rack the difficulty up for next game.

I like the game so much I'm going to try Endless Space and Dungeons of the Endless
when I get chance.

Fantastic graphics too. I'm going to get myself a GTX 970 as my 560ti sounds like it's taking off when I play it...

No way, if you have Drakken nearby prepare to be warred against very early on. They always cane me fairly rapidly.

Very much enjoying this myself, but note to AMD users, if you have regular CTD, use the 32 bit beta (no code required, even though it asks for one), and they will go away. For some reason my 2nd gpu stays at idle clocks in game, even though it is at 100% usage, but that doesn't seem to be a problem as my single 290 runs it fine at 1440p

Devrij, what difficulty do you play on?

Any recommendations in terms of factions to play as?
I've played both games as Wind Walkers so far...

Cheers.

I play on normal/hard, and I prefer the broken lords (I actually created a custom faction based on them that I use), but they are quite different since they don't use food. I suggest trying out the Vaulters. Their units are really powerful for damage, they can teleport between cities, and they have some strong science buffs that help you get through the trees quickly.

Once you get the hang of it normal is pretty easy and hard is where the challenge starts coming in.

I always feel a bit rushed by the Drakken, they start conquering almost straight away while I like to build my empire slowly (as Dev can attest to).

Thanks both.

I'll try on hard in my next game.

Funnily enough I started a game last night as Broken Lords - only got a few turns in, but I was wondering what was going on when no food showed up on the map.

So sounds like you guys play multiplayer then?

We do indeed. It's quite cool in that if you share maps & vision with your mates in the diplomacy screen then you can watch their battles and tell them how rubbish they are while you wait to end the turn. Also handy for helping eachother out by donating resources /technology. Until the end when you finally fight for supremacy.

Been enjoying my first playthrough of this. Learnt a lot already. There's a lot of depth here and it's really nicely polished.

So I'm at about turn 170, there's no more room to expand without going to war. I'm second most powerful civ behind those hyper-aggresive guys who wiped out a rival civ by turn 100. Got peace with the third most powerful civ and my main border is with a relatively weaker civ who also border the aggressive warmongers (though not at war with them yet).

Now I'm thinking taking cities from this third civ would then give me a long border with the warrior civ, which might not be the best idea. At least I have a buffer now. So, how do I best push for victory? A bit lost at this point...
