I've got about £300 I was gaining last year from around May-Sept due to solar and haven't whittled it down to zero yet
Once I get to zero planning to go onto actual monthly.

Why would you pay in extra, it's not as if you get any interest on it? I got two refunds last year, £550 at the beginning of the year and after two months of hassle with Octopus they finally refunded me £760 just before Christmas. Both times I left £250 in my account to cover a cold winter, just in case. I'm already back to £352 in my account after my latest bill was deducted and that's after dropping my payments as low as they will let me.
