im thinking about upgrading graphics card to a 8800 gts 640 mb, do you guys think that this power supply will be powerfull enough?
i have a abit-aw9d max

2gb geil ram
7900 gs

cheers

The 500w guidance is more of a disclaimer against cheap and nasty PSUs, a generic PSU that claims 500w might only be able to supply 350w continuously e.g. about on a par with a named brand 350w. :)

No it will be fine as said, its not being 550w that matters, its what you have on the 12v rails thats more important, and that PSU has got 2x 12v rails both at 20a so will power it fine. :)

I have that PSU and just to point out that combined 12v load is only 30A not 40A as you'd think.

Also the modular cables it comes with are pap.

Theres 2 sata and 2 molex connectors on each but you can only use 2 of them at a time

Oh and its uber quiet as well

400w should be fine, I guess it depends how old your existing PSU is? (they do weaken after time, normally they start losing their oooomph after 1-2 years).

I really like the enermax liberty series, just wish they would do a bit better sheathing on the cables, don't like the way it stops short about 2" from the connectors.

Am I being picky? :D

If you search the manufactures real spec they tend to recommend the minimum current (Amps) on the 12V rail. Which you can check on your PSU. The Watt power figure is a very rough and albeit inaccurate guide. I would rather have a 350W Enermax powering that graphics card than a 1000W Qtec type PSU.
