Engagement Ring

spent £900 on mine from a Chrisholm Hunter. My girlfriend actually picked it from a photo I sent her. (weve been together nearly 6 years) so price is not really a good indicator here, it has to be something she actually wants to wear for a start!

I guess a lot of this comes down to how long you have been together. Yes you are planning to marry her but is this after a year relationship or 5+ years..because it makes a massive difference in how you can approach the entire thing.
 
Another vote for 77 Diamonds here.

Remember that tradition dictacts that you spend at least 12x your monthly take home salary. I'm just glad my wife has tiny fingers and so didn't want a huge rock. :p

If you know for sure her ring size i would go online, much more choice and tends to be a fair bit cheaper, just make sure you go with a repeatable site which isn't hard

DItto. I paid about £200 - can't remember exactly as it was nearly 13 years ago and we're still going strong. At the time (age 23) it was 1/15th my monthly salary, but money has never been a measure of our "worth" or happiness.

Yeah mine was £450, i don't believe in those multiple of salary rubbish which was a myth developed in the diamond industry during the great depression to drum up business anyway
 
I selected something between the £600-£700 from 77 Diamonds but in the end she said no and picked out something on the highstreet herself with a coloured stone. I didn't mind, I saved money :p
