I've read that if your are thinking of a commitment that your monthly salary equates to the price of an engagement ring. I'm sure that is just some jewellery industry bull but hey ho.

My question is would that be your gross salary or net salary?

Just out of curiosity what happens to the engagement ring after you get married? If its never going to get worn why spend a lot, just get a simple gold band - and if the engagement breaks off not as much of a loss

The intended wouldn't be too happy!

Spend as much as you can afford FFS, our wedding cost enough the following year, let alone worrying about the bloody engagement ring!

Just get a nice one, in the end if she's really bothered about the cost then shes not in it for the long run
