So the time has come to pop the question. Now I know you're supposed too spent 3 months on a ring but no way is she getting a ring over £3500. Can anyone reccomend a good shop/place/website where i can get a decent deal.

Must be white gold with 3 diamonds.

I always thought it was a months wages?

Personally I wouldnt want to be wearing something on my finger that cost anymore than about 500 quid unless I lost it/got it nicked, but thats just me.

*gets down on one knee* :p

I thought it was 2 months' worth of wages.

I would just buy a nice one that you can afford - make a judgement.

Can i marry you instead knip

why pick a ring on cost when it would be much better to pick one you know she would want.

I bought my wife's ring for £66.99 in some high street independant jewellers, you know the kind with an entire workshop crammed behind the counter, operated by a dodgy looking bloke who should only be seen on crimewatch. No way am I spending good money on a tiny bit of metal that she has ~4000 of already.

She's happy with it as far as I can tell.

Maybe im just odd, but I dont see the point in wearing something that cost the equivalent of the debt of some parts of Africa :D

Im bad enough with the necklace I wear that cost just over £100, constantly worried what i'd do if I lost it.

Maybe im weird I just think the money could be better spent on other things, same as I dont understand people who spend thousands on weddings, have a cheap do, and then a big party, whats the point its just one day.

If my parents were offering to spend thousands on a wedding i'd say no, and ask for the money for a deposit for a house, fair enough and I wouldnt begrudge people if they have the money available to spend, I just couldnt do it myself.
:)

I think around 300 quid tops unless you are minted, cant see the need for anymore to be spent on an engagement ring. I think for me it would be nearer 200, its juts a piece of bloody metal, they all look the same

The best thing is to pick a good stone and then get it put into a setting, not just pick a ring.

Are there any Indian jewellers near you as they usually have fantastic stones and unusual settings? Another thing to consider is whether there are any craft fairs on near you as you can often find some beautiful hand made pieces.

One mpnths salary if deffo enough though.

I actually thought you meant you would only wear it if you nicked it from someone.

Ya di ya di ya dah!
I dont even have a man to buy me an engagement ring so why would I be wanting or stealing one :D
(however if anyone does want to buy me one white gold with a big fat rock in the middle please! :p)

Spend what you like, the whole thee months thing was a marketing campaign created by De Beers. I got my other half to pick the ring she wanted (I would have got it wrong) and I paid for it.

Very simple really.

Actually, we picked the stone and the a set for it.

Doesnt that kind of take the surprise element out of it, im interested as to how that works because ive always thought if any poor sod ever did decide to propose to me, I would want it to be a complete surprise. Not having a pop, so dont think I am.

My sister proposed to her bloke on Valentines day with a jelly ring, and then her fiances jewellery designer father made her a ring.
