I think we should be a bit less hasty here. Give the guy a chance etc... ;)

OP, what engine are you wishing to use as a base, and what sort of bhp will you be looking for? Will you be staying NA or moving to forced induction? Probably most importantly, what budget have you set aside?

You could have the makings of an interesting project. How much research have you done though?
 
Before you go into building a 'high spec' engine, have you done all the basic stuff to your current engine? Full Exhaust, intake, fitted a throttle Body from a higher capacity engine from the same engine family etc?
I don't know how old you are, but I know virtually no insurance companies will touch young drivers (under 25) if the vehicle has had an engine swap, the likes of Adrian Flux will cover engine mods, but if the actual engine has been swapped for a different from standard one, then they won't touch young drivers. I know as I tried to get insured on my dad's Cinquecento which has had an engine swap and they said no way.

As far as I can gether from previous threads, OP is fairly young, he didn't finish college long ago (if he has at all), he has no idea what profession he wants to be in, this is his first car, he has had his licence for a matter of weeks (if indeed he has his full licence at all), he is on black-box cover, he enjoys playing old need for speed games and he wants to vinyl wrap/lower/spray the alloys/re-build the engine of a rubbish old Focus. Blud. :p

OP, you CANNOT do this. NOBODY will insure you to drive a car with a heavily modified engine, and most places will refuse to cover you or quote you stupid money for even the most basic modifications.

Just drive your focus and be content knowing that you'll be able to afford something better once you get some no claims bonus under your belt. As a first car the focus is pretty nice anyway!

I'm 22 (policy started when I was 21 though), and insured on an Astra with an engine conversion, 1.6 to 2.0 turbo, the insurance isn't too bad. Everything declared on the engine, wheels, suspension, exhaust etc. I'm paying £750 fully comp with recovery etc which I think is quite reasonable really.

My dad's car had a Novitec 1.2 High boost Turbo Conversion done on it, so the original 1.1ltr engine was swapped out with a 1.2ltr Punto Engine, then modified to lower the compression, and a Turbo fitted. Output was upped to 118bhp which was obviously a massive difference form the standard 54bhp.

I stand corrected. Maybe they've changed their policy T&C's, as I have to admit, this was many years ago I was trying to get insured (probably about 2000-2001 if I'm honest), and I was under 21 at the time, so that would have made a difference as well I'm pretty sure.

the insurance company doesn't give a crap if it's been replaced like-for-like i assume? As long as the appropriate parties have been informed?
