Engine Number, Chassis number and VIN number

I'm assuming these are all the same thing on a standard VW car?

I just need to put in the VIN number?

Chassis and VIN, yes. Engine number is different.

If you phone VW and provide them your reg/VIN then they may be able to provide your engine code. Are you needing to replace a part?
