Yeah thats what I have been told, which is a little worrying really as I normally use just some standerd stuff.

Im on 55000 miles, 1999 Reg Car.

Thanks

well you have a totally standard car with a standard engine, that's what standard oil is made for! So it's all good! Age question was regarding if you had some megamileagemonster then you can buy fancy high mileage specific oil or some nice additives to help it all tick over. But head to motors forum ;)

Thats good to hea, thought I may have been doing some engine damage.

I have recently been told I should be using a Synthetic based oil rather them petrolium which caused me to post this.

Go to German and Swedish and get yourself 5 litres of Quantum Synta, the same oil VW chuck in there.
I am sure you have a G&S near you somewhere. Failing that you can buy it online and I think that their website even helps you select the right parts/oil/bulbs/windscreen wipers etc.

This car will run fine on pretty much any oil from 0w/30, 5w/30, 5w/40, 10w/40 or 15w/40.
As mentioned VW would usually use, Quantum Synta Silver (10w/40 Semi Synth) or Quantum Synta Gold (5w/40 Fully Synth).
