Engine start alarm

my rover 75 has an extra heater that kicks in below about 5c to heat the water and the inside of the car(without the engine running), i have to start mine, but you can get them to start on the remote and even on a timer
the little heater runs off the diesel

it's only a civic, but like i say, i'm too pedantic when it comes to cars, won't drive until it's warmed up, like to maintain any car i have, even if it was a crappy micra.

If you loved your car you wouldn't do this to it; leaving a cold engine idling is the worst thing you could do. Get in, start it and drive it.

You need to invest in a fine pair of driving gloves as discussed in another thread.

You can easily drive at motorway speeds without over revving.

Sounds like you're just trying to justify a pointless gadget to yourself

Buy yourself a decent fleece, pair of gloves and some night before de icer. Wear the gloves when you're scraping the ice off, keep the fleece on when you drive off if your heater is that crap

I have always been told to drive away as soon as you start your car, as idling from cold ain't that great for the eninge?

i know what you say, it's just i'm just too pedantic when it comes to my car, always warm it up to half way until i drive off. keep the engine maintained:)

You must mean you like wrecking the engine. An engine will take ages to warm up from idling. You're running the engine cold for this entire time, much longer than if you were to just drive it.

You can easily drive at motorway speeds without over revving.

In a car with a short ratio box?
