"Engineering release - not for production use."

Sometimes they are lazy and just throw out the cards without removing the ES string from the BIOS (they aren't actually ES cards). Quite a few motherboards have it if you look in everest.

If you use nbitor you can re-enable or remove the BIOS string.

so basically its just the bios version that causes it? hardware is the same? im not bothered about a message.

edit:aha! on leadtek's site there is a bios update that says:

PX8800GT ZL regular BIOS update-
update BIOS description

i bet that would change it

edit again: ok i downloaded the file but its just a .rom

how the hell do i install this thing!

it runs perfectly, ut3 is awesome!
i'll leave it as it is, it doesnt seem to be sapping my performance or anything like that

temps are great too, around 55*c max

it could be an ES - but not that likely - it won't be a problem tho - no performance difference - if it is an ES it may OC better than a retail card...

If it really is an ES, then the OP may have problems trying to claim on warranty. Id want to get confirmation about that bios statement personally.

Update:

went through the support process with leadtek, after giving them the cards s/n etc, they sent me a bios flashing program that worked from windows. Problem now solved.
