Please remember that Owen likes to pick and choose who he plays with, Rooney on the other hand gives 110% everytime he plays a game of football

Thats because Rooney is the only one that has any spuds to run his arse off for England

I can guarnatee any England international striker would have Rooney over Owen any day of the week
 
And Rooney's been **** for England so if G|mp's arguement was that Rooney should play based on his work-rate and thats enough to make up for his performances then weringo's point's pretty fair.
 
Not really because with Rooney theres always the danger he will rip you to bits and score 2

Kuyt could play against my Ma, me old Nan, my cousin James (whos a bit bent) and my Aunty, he still wouldnt score
 
Rooney hasn't been any worse than the majority of the others. Half the time he's played alongside complete donkeys upfront. When he came back from injury and played alongside Owen for the last few games of qualifying he played a lot better.

Fair point, hope it happens one day soon (the Rooney bit not Kuyt playing the G|mp family).

Most of the time he's played with Crouch and with his international record you can't really justify calling him a donkey.

I genuinely believe Gerrard has been poor for a while at international level, I've been saying as such for quite a while rather than jumping on any sort of bandwagon in recent times. Lampard looked a better player during the last campaign (when picked).
 
This thread is absolutely ridiculous and is spiralling out of control...its just turning into a liverpool vs man utd debate...all the united supporters saying rooney's better, all the liverpool fans saying owen is better....cant any of you see this objectively at all??

First of all captain...terry or gerrard, others need not apply. You would be a fool to pick any other player as these two have shown they have the qualities week in week out to be a captain, and have shown in recent years that they have what it takes to take the game by the scruff of the neck and win it. Ferdinand is definitely Englands best defender, but should never allowed to be captain cos he is an idiot plain and simple. The same applies to Rooney; do people forget that he got sent off against portugal because he STAMPED on Carvalho? Rooney's sending off was the reason England lost, but everybody seems to forget that just because he is so talented. People should take off their rose tinted spectacles...there was another game where he had to be substituted (i think it was against spain) when he pushed Casillas into the advertisement hordings..his attitude stinks and these are just a couple of examples in an England shirt where Rooney has behaved like an idiot/thug/irresponsibly.

Now onto the issue of strikers...again there is no contest here...only two players need to appkly again...it HAS to be Rooney and Owen. Anybody who thinks otherwise needs their head screwing on. Rooney has to play cos he has the ability to turn a game in a flash; his all round play is magnificent and his finishing is great too. He should score a hell of a lot more goals. Owen has to play too..his record speaks for itself and he is Englands best goalscorer period. Nobody in the current setup comes close to owen in the scoring stakes. He has proved time and time again that he can do it in an england shirt so why do people always doubt his ability? Out of anybody in an England shirt owen is the only one who really doesnt have to be ashamed..he has been injured so much in recent years yet when he has played he has pretty much delivered when nobody else has.

People get a grip!
