Am I understanding this story right or wrong? The police are threatening to use the law against pub land lords if they cannot prevent crime in their pubs, which is apparently caused by wearing England shirts - or so the Met police say  Anyone else heard about this?

It annoys me though, I should be able to wear what I want, so long as it isn't illegal. Same old story that a few people let us down by being idiots. Most of them being on FB groups such as "If you ban our England tops, I'll poke a Muslim in the eyes with a sausage". I don't see anywhere where Muslims have come in to this debate, have they? Have the Muslim community somewhere said they don't want people to wear England shirts?

Silly FB society.

As said you can wear what you want but it doesn't mean that the business has to let you in. Wetherspoons for instance has had a policy of not letting in anyone wearing football tops for years irrespective of the top or whether anyone is even playing on that day. While not all football fans (or even the majority of them) will cause trouble the decision to ban football shirts removes one potential cause of conflict.

I'd hazard a guess that in most pubs you can still wear your football top without being questioned about it.

Yeah I can understand that but I don't quite get the whole police side of things with some kind of legal approach. How can a law be enforced on shirt wearing exactly?

I first considered making the thread in GD. Then considered the kind of discussion that would follow in there ;)
