England Goalkeeper

No, you don't turn into a bad keeper overnight. But Wright has done nothing useful since well before leaving Ipswich. Arsenal did well to offload him without paying someone to take him off them.

Thats nearly two full seasons he's been a shocking player, though I've not seen him at the start of this season.

Yep, he's had several bad games in those last two years, I agree. Although he hasn't played that much in that time since leaving Ipswich, which hasn't done him much good I shouldn't think. Don't get me wrong, I am no fanboy of his, I just don't think he's as bad as you make out..

unfortunately i cant see sven dropping seaman untill he chooses to step down and unfortunately by then the damage will have been done. he should be made to retire,

Its a great shame its all come to this - Seaman has been a great servant to England, but should have retired from Internationals before the World Cup IMHO.

Anyone who even mentions Wright needs to go home, watch England v Malta from a few years ago, formulate a proper opinion of him as an international keeper and then repost:D

Seaman is still v.good though is getting too old. Bring Robinson in - S L O W L Y! Wright was rushed in and he has never been the same since.

Seaman is being heavily critised for a handful of mistakes, obviously when you are in goal mistakes matter more but who is there to replace him? Calamity James? He didn't get his nickname for nothing. I feel all the others are a bit to green really. Although i think Seaman is in decline i still don't think there's a better keeper about at the mo. Don't forget how well he was doing in the WC before the flukey Brazil goal, and also how well he's doing in the prem.

I think Robinson should have a run, Seaman should retire from England as he's clearly got something the matter with him and I don't think he'll be playing in the championships we're trying to qualify for anyway...

I think we should be using the 'keeper we intend to take to Euro 2004 (if we get there  ) which surely wouldn't be Seaman cos of his age if nothing else.. I'm not sure who's best to replace him but I do think it's time he went.

Looks about right to me. Though if it was 'who should be picked for England's next match' and the poll included Seaman I'm sure he'd get more than James. Still think Robbo would lead the way though.

I'm not so sure after Wednesday ;)

I think they need to sort this position out and then stick with them. Shame there is 4 months until the next England game.

Don't get me wrong, I'd not be picking Seaman. But people that don't really follow matches plus Arsenal fans would be picking Seaman cos thats the name they would know best.

4 months (? I think thats when the next game is) is a long time for a 39year old. It should be decided then who's best for the job. If Seaman's still playing well for Arsenal, play him. If James has been outstanding for West Ham, play him, etc

Aye, you have a point. Still reckon he'd come no more than 3rd though :p

Kirkland can't really be mentioned yet either - he doesn't play for his club. And Dudek has just signed a new deal.

seamen lost us the world cup, as did shilton in '90. thats the problem with england, we always stick with the deadwood for too long

You could have had Oliver kahn in goal and u still wouldnt be able to beat brazil so instead of blaming 1 player try to realise the WHOLE england team sucked and they were outplayed the vast majority of the match by the best team in the world.

I guess u picking Robinson has nothing to do with u being a leeds fan ;) :p

I guess this is one the big negatives of playing for england u make a mistake to whole country is against u, play a great match and they worship the ground u walk on. I seem to remember after WC98 how fans hated and i mean hated beckham and yet after the greece game they loved him. I find this very odd.

Indeed Seamans time is coming up but i dont think it is up yet and yes u should be thinking about the future but not experimenting during qualifiers, maybe people realise how very important friendlys are and that is the time to make changes and experiment

I hardly think Brazil played great that game either!

Its time England had a new keeper, and whats the point of hanging around and playing Seaman for the next 6 months then dropping him. His confidence must be shot to hell by now. What Sven needs to do is pick a new keeper, then say - You're my No1, and I am not going to drop you after one game.

They played better than england and england had all their men back so what did u expect. If ronaldinho hadnt been sent off i think brazil would have scored 1 or maybe even 2.

And at important times u dont suddenly drop ur No.1 and say hey maybe we should change. Every time england screw up its like hey lets get our youth in and not concentrate about the next major coz we should think of the 1 after that.

What i find bad about england is their lack of a striker every striker they got at the moment simply isnt performing at international level, u can change the goalkeeper but it doesnt change the fact ur having trouble scoring!!! Maybe its time for Alan Shearer to come out of retirement :D

deffo robinson, seaman needs to be replaced not bcoz of the mistakes he has made recently but because robinson is better. I think age has little to do with it, as long as u can perform - and robinson generally performs better than seaman and the other mentioned keepers
