England vs. France [Read during Euro2004]

A fully-fit England team will give France a good game...

ie.

Kirkland

G. Neville
Campbell
Woodgate/Terry
A. Cole

Beckham
Gerrard
Scholes
Lampard

Owen
Rooney

:)

I wouldn't call Beckham a complete player as he only has one foot, can't header the ball and can't tackle very well either :)

I'd also not call Schevchenko a striker, I'd call him a forward.

Beckham is a very good attacker and works very hard as a defender too. Are you trying to tell me Zidane can tackle well? :p I've seen Beckham head the ball, albeit he isn't in Vieri's league :p First goal for Real Madrid was a header. He's a wide midfielder usually though or a centre midfielder, so headers aren't usually what he has to do.

Vieira is obviously better defensively but he is also very good at making forward runs and attacking. Zidane doesn't score many goals either but he is mentioned as a complete player.

I of course am just basing how complete the player is on their all round ability. Thats why there are no forwards in it, only midfielders. Henry couldn't defend whereas Vieira and Beckham can etc. Plus their skills are taken into account :)

I never really watch Italian football so I have only seen glimpses of Shevchenko, but in the few matches I have watched he has always been the most forward player. That is why I put him as as striker. If he's more of a forward though then fair enough.

Couldn't agree more. Apart from I'd have Robinson in net :)

Fair enough, he plays more like Henry does than DvK or Shearer though, for example.

Shearer should make it into any top strikers list, old or not. Look at his goal scoring record. He's scored over 30 league goals in 4 different seasons. Considering 'world class' Owen has never scored 20, that's pretty good. I think he's got over 20 league goals in 8 different seasons, and will do again this year!

I don't see how you can have Owen below Ronaldo. Just look at the facts - Owen is still young, just a baby learning his trade so when he has more experience he will be far superior. Then don't forget his endless list of medals - including five MAJOR trophies in one year! His is also faster than Ronaldo and we all know that pace is by far the most important attribute a footballer can have - how else would Tony Daley have got in the England team? Plus Ronaldo is fat, lazy and living on past reputation. Anyone who has more bulk than kate moss cannot possibly be considered a top player. If he wasn't at real madrid he would never score. Meanwhile Owen is at the mighty Liverpool, the mere mention of the name strikes fear into the hearts of clubs across the continent - as it should do thanks to their victory in the 2001 European SUPER Cup.

MAJOR trophies? oh yea the super cup is really up there isnt it, its clearly why teams actually wanna win the champs league so they can compete for the SUPER CUP... also calling the worthy/carling/whatever cup major is wrong and erm... isnt one of those 5 the charity shield? haha yea right major... preseason friendly more likely

Why the hell do you put Butt in? He's rubbish.

We currently have Lampard and Parker in marvelous form (though I can't see Parker breaking into the England setup for a while now he's at Chelsea) and you want to put that POS in?

Yeah when Shearer was mentioned a little earlier after I posted my list, I knew I had forgotten him. Allow me to put him in it now :p The guy is 'Shear' class :o

He did have a good World Cup compared to what everyone expected from him.

However, considering Sven came into the job adament that he would select 'in form' players (yeah, like he ever has :p) Butt should not be in the squad at the moment. He barely gets a game, and even when he does he is very very average. Scott Parker and Lampard have been superb in the Premiership this season so it only seems logical to put one of those guys in the team. They are younger too, which means they would become fixtures in the team for years to come (unless another gem comes along :))

What do you mean, Gerrard doesn't need to get forward he can ping long balls for Owen to run onto all day long.

Owen wouldn't get on the end of it though even if it was the most perfect ball ever. The defender would breathe on him and Owen wouldn't be able to cope with it and get tackled :p

He would probably get on the end of it a few times, get in 1 on 1 situations and constantly fluff it :D.
