England's five strikers for the WC?

I think you guys should take 5 guys from Non League football

Thats because im Scottish and hope you get pumped:p

It wouldnt matter if you were playing Mars as the martians would be supported elsewhere in the UK

Although I do hope you beat Germany or Argentina though if you play them

Kevin Davies should get a chance...

Why? To constantly foul the opposition, he's made himself into a useful striker purely as he put on so much weight and can't be knocked off the ball but World Cup class? Come on....! We'll be the laughing stock come the WC.

May as well put Beckford in there if such players as Heskey, Zamora and Davies are being mentioned!

Zamora isn't even premiership quality let along world quality. I'd ask shearer to come out of retirement before I took him. Shows how bad we are for strikers if hes in the 5.

I wouldnt bother with 5 strikers, they simply wont get a game, ever.
I wouldnt bother with packing the team full of midfielders either, only 4 are ever going to play bar some freak accident.

I dont understand a lot of the time what england managers base their team selections on, you would think for the sake of argument, if the best team in the league, has a regular starting 11 that consists of a high number of english players, that you would keep that core of players toghether, and then select other players to fit in with how that core of players play.
So say as an example (I'm going to ignore ages and form in this example, its not the point) that United went on to win the League and the champions league this season, with a settled side that consisted of:

Foster
Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra.
Valencia Carrick, Scholes, Nani
Rooney Owen.

You would think that they would look at that and go, hmm, we only need find a center back, left back and two wingers to fit in with that side, we dont need to worrk about then never playing toghether as we have a solid settled spine. Now you could say, well thats never happened, but it has, just not on that scale.

As for the strikers named, whether its Cole, Zamora, Gabby, you might as well be just be listing kitchen utensils, as none of them are going to get a kick, only Rooney Defoe and Crouch will ever see the pitch no matter what happens.

Would have been

Rooney
Defoe
C.Cole
Crouch
Owen

With today's news sub out Owen and guarantee C.Cole goes (with the thinking that for some reason Heskey is almost a cert to be there)

I very much doubt Capello would have picked Owen, he still would have played a bit part role along side Berbatov and Rooney.

Why not?

Everyone likes to refer to the situation of someone getting into World Cup squads out of nowhere so why not with Owen?

Going into a World Cup I think it would have been foolish not to include an experienced player like Owen especially given his record.

He can't be relied on, he's just plagued by injury. Knowing England's luck Capello would have picked him and him get injured in training. Besides, Capello would have picked him before, even when he was getting the odd game for Man U.

I agree, I don't think Capello would have picked Owen no matter how well he played before the end of the season. I do however think he would have been wrong.

Well I remain unconvinced

I guess I'll know how Capello works somewhat by who he chooses to be number 1 at the World Cup because despite him starting England's last couple of games I'd bet money on Green not starting our first game at the WC

Not totally sold on the argument but I still think in the early 90s England could have done a lot worse than pick Seaman in goal behind Winterburn, Adams, Bould and Dixon. Solid unit, no issues with communication, very effective offside trap. Then pick whoever in midfield and upfront.

Oh wait, hang on a minute, we did do a lot worse. Bottom of our group in Euro'92 and then didn't even qualify for WC'94.
