English, CL & Europa League Football [12th - 18th Mar 2010] **spoilers**

Show me a team thats won a trophy without spending money, it doesn't happen. You make it sound like you paid pittance for Rooney etc.

I dont care if a team spends £1 million or £100 million on a player.

Man Utd spend what they've earned. Big bloody difference there.

Some Arsenal fans really are developing a massive case of victim complex. Time for a prescription of reality, doses available at your GP's discretion. :p

I can see that. But we've seen tackles like that every week against our own players and thankfully it doesn't result in a major injury. Look at the Everton v Liverpool game, Mascherano was lucky he didn't suffer a leg break with Pienaar kicking him.

Ronaldo was booted up and down the pitch during his time at Old Trafford, no sympathy from rival fans. I do think players take it too far, but that Shawcross was 50/50, no malice, just an incredibly horrible outcome. Bringing up past tackles when he was younger is pointless. I can remember Gerrard flying in two footed when he was younger, Essien too. These tackles will always happen, it's part of football. It's a side nobody likes to see, and it's even worse when a player is carried off as a result of it.

That sums up your manager just perfectly.

This fergie time is funny, because he shares it with every other manager in the league. He's a very kind man. And yes all referees are incompetent, something nearly all of us say every time we see a football match these days. The difference is that managers get fined for saying it.

Lowest attendance in 5 years at Anfield tonight, just over 40,000. Fingers crossed the FA cant do anything about the Gerrard "challenge".

Fingers crossed they do. :p

One thing is for sure, he shouldn't be facing Man Utd at Old Trafford this weekend. Lets see if the F.A. have balls.

Dont think it's about balls, if the ref saw it, they cant do anything. If the ref didnt, then I've no doubt that he'll be banned.

Since when has that ever mattered to the F.A. who bend their own rules every other week. It's violent conduct. 3 match ban please. The good thing was he wasn't even booked for it, so I reckon the F.A. will look at it again. :p

Sets a precedent though if the referee saw it.

Well the referee should have done his job, if he had given him a yellow, the F.A. would have that to fall back on stating that he was punished by the ref at the time and the matter was dealt with. But no booking at all, and I'm not sure the referee did see it all, the F.A. should definitely step in and ban him and throw the ref into the championship for not doing his job.

Gerrard hasn't looked as passionate as he has in recent years, he might have had enough of playing under Benitez or he's had enough of playing through an injury when the biggest tournament of his career is around the corner. He needs a break, hopefully an upcoming 3 match ban should sort that out. :p

Europa League?

Of course. Did you think I was talking about the World Cup? We all know where Gerrard's priorities lie. :p

'But, for me as captain and for the team, we've got one more trophy to lift. So we'll be giving everything. Anyone who underestimates the Europa League is not for me because I've lifted the UEFA Cup before. '

I'm really looking forward to the Chelsea game, hoping for lots of goals and Drogba to pull a hamstring. :p (Just kidding).

Happy 20th birthday Skip! Have a great one matey. :)

No action for Gerrard according to Talksport. What a ****ing joke. Did they not review the referee's performance? He got penalty shouts wrong, well out of his depth.

It's not corrupt at all if the referee saw it and took no action other than giving the foul. They couldnt charge him without causing themselves serious problems further down the line.

They could charge him but they bottled it. They've gone back on their own rues before to punish people. Yet again they show incompetence at the highest level and reinforce another incredibly poor refereeing performance in the EPL.

The standard of officials is of more of a concern though; it's not often you can say the ref got every single major decision wrong on top of countless corners, free-kicks etc.

Nail on the head. They've just backed the referee up for his performance during the game with their inaction today. Has there been a worse season for these decisions? Every game I've seen them.

Honestly, most ref's get an incredibly large number of decisions wrong, and its got smeg all to do with our league to be honest. Watching more and more La Liga lately, aswell as world cup qualifiers(Russia got utterly raped by the ref) the standard of officials is awful throughout. The only times ref's seem half decent is when nothing major happens in a game.

Although I'm specifically talking about the standard in the EPL this season here, I agree that the problem is more widespread. FIFA and UEFA aren't fussed though. Football has never generated as much money and that's all that matters to the big chiefs.

It happens to them too though Tom. The Chelsea game last season. This has nothing to do with Liverpool more so the double standards employed by the F.A. and how they implement their own rules when it suits them.
