Now that the dust has settled on yesterdays game there's a much strong sense of annoyance than anything else. We should have scored that penalty which would have made their last minute effort irrespective of time unimportant. These are the matches that Chelsea or UTD would close up with ease by and large, a result like this is a blip for them but there's the sense it's an annoying reoccurrence for us. Winning away 1-0 away with 10 men is the bedrock of any campaign, particularly after a 6-0 and a 4-1 win.
Fact is, it was a gritty match. To paint Sunderland as really deserving a point because they were in it doesn't make sense. It's like saying because we had more shots on target and possession we deserved to win. No, not really. At the end of the two chances were taken - one by each side.
Overall the ref had a huge stinker. I don't know what was with Song yesterday, he deserved two yellows, though possibly not for one maybe both of his challenges which went into the book. The ref missed several fouls which Sunderland themselves should have been booked for, yet they kept getting away with it. What then happens that we've seen for years? They get worse and worse until Wilshere is taken out almost off the pitch. Typical.
Cesc going off is annoying though to be fair in the league it's W Brom next so he ought to take the next two games off. It's too early to be taking a risk with him.
Denilson didn't look too bad (?!?!?!!) so I say play him and Wilshere on Sat, possibly the former on Wed for more match fitness. Against Spurs it may be an idea to play Rosicky as well, he did well until the penalty and he'd already shown in the first two games some form.
Arshavin continues to miff. As noted it was pleasing he got back more and covered space but he's reverted into 9/10 games rubbish upfront mode. He was one of the players that was falling back from time to time to help cover Song who kept moving up, a tactic which shouldn't be used. Another one who could find it useful against Spurs is Chamakh, an English cup tie with our geographical rival. However if he gets injured we'd have no strikers left.
That's the most **** thing. 5 games down, and our squad's already been pillaged. We've lost RvP, Walcott, Diaby, maybe Cesc for a game or two and of course the others. Song is suspended against W Brom.* We lost 2 points WITH our squad returning to its typically bare state, again.
*(Actually is that true? Would Spurs be a game where a ban would come in effect or is that just the FA Cup?).
Thats the main reason I dislike MOTD, almost any game can be twisted into anything you like showing only certain highlights.
Agreed, don't forget too that it's still in a way an entertainment show.
